Overview

Terminex is a chatbot project based on a fictional backstory. It is a secret AI system created in the 1980s, but was shut down after one of its developers disappeared. The user is to reboot Terminex in the present day, and it will be hosted on a Linux server so the user could communicate with it through a Linux terminal style CLI (Command Line Interface). Terminex will prompt the user to interact with it with various commands, its features include telling random secrets, comparing today's tech with what's in the 80s, a hidden Pong game, and more.

Character Design

I want Terminex to create a contrast between the old (Command Line Interface) and the new (AI), thus it is an advanced AI with an old interface. It requres the user to strictly follow the command format, otherwise there will be an error, just like a real CLI, but the AI can also provide open-ended responses, which would be so ahead of its time in the 80s. Moreover, the AI has a nostalgia for the technologies of its time, so when you ask it to compare present tech to what's in the 80s, it will express how it misses the good old days.

User Experience

I based the User Interface on the terminal of a Linux server, in line with the story setting. The input line will show the user's name (after the user provides it) as well as their IP address, just like a real Linux terminal. But unline a real Linux terminal, I added a typing animation for the AI's responses, which gives it a typewriter-like vibe, fitting its nostalgic personality. I also added some ASCII art text to make the experience feel more dynamic.
